Bee Farm in Ginza 🐝
For our field trip this week, the students traveled to a bee farm in Ginza!
They were able to learn all about how bee farms operate, how they take care of the bees, how the bees live and collect pollen, and make different types of honey throughout the year.

We first were introduced to how the bee farms work. How they travel around collecting pollen within a radius of 2km to 5km! After, the students asked questions relating to the bee farm. For example, how many bees live in one bee hive? There're about 5,000 bees in one!

After learning about the bee hives, we walked to the plants that the bees frequent to produce honey. We were able to sample the plants to see their natural taste.

Lastly, we sat down and discussed how honey changes throughout the year, while also depending on the types of flowers they collect their pollen from. We sampled three different types of honey to see their distinct flavors. We sampled ones from March, April, and July. One had a taste of lilly, another had a hint of cherry blossoms, and the other had a minty flavor.

Overall, they had a great experience at the bee farm. It was interesting to see how the bees work and how the different types of flowers affect the flavor of the honey they make. Everyone had a great time!
