Today, we start the new Grade 5 Maths curriculum with a fun game. After working extremely hard to speak only English in the first 2 lessons of phonics and speaking, fatigue was starting to settle in for the students and the daunting task of a new math class was made more tempting by playing….The Product Game!

Using similar game rules to Connect 4, the students used a grid of product answers and two markers to make multiplication sums. If they got an answer that appeared on the grid, they captured the square. If they managed to get 4 horizontal, vertical, or diagonal squares, they won the game.

After a couple of games, the students became tactical masterminds in trying to manipulate their sums to try and capture the board squares!
