Our Sun Bear Lecture Event!

We are thrilled to share that ATLAS International School hosted a special and deeply educational event focused on wildlife conservation: the ATLAS Global Future: Sun Bear Lecture!

It was a truly wonderful experience for our entire school community.

We had the distinct honor of welcoming guest speakers Nao Suzaki and Mayuko Takeda to our Gotanda campus. Both founders established the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center Japan (BSBCC Japan) in 2024 to support the vital mission of the original BSBCC located in Sabah, Malaysia.

During the session, our students learned a tremendous amount about:

  • The unique ecology and natural behaviors of sun bears (マレーグマ).
  • The critical conservation challenges sun bears face, including illegal pet trade and poaching.
  • The rehabilitation and re-wilding efforts taking place in near-natural environments to protect these vulnerable animals.
  • How education, awareness, and local support networks—such as school partnerships and fundraising—make a global difference.

The students absolutely loved the presentation! They were completely captivated by the stories and photographs of the sun bears.

Curiosity filled the room as the session opened up for discussion, and our students actively asked thoughtful questions about how they can help protect wildlife habitats and support conservation efforts from Japan.

Thank you so much to Nao Suzaki, Mayuko Takeda, and everyone who helped make this event such a resounding success. Events like these empower our students to become compassionate global citizens who care deeply about our planet's future!
